Halloween Costumes

Costume Ideas
“Oh, what to wear?” is the question that strikes every October. As a Halloween enthusiast I spend months planning an outfit and acquiring all the bits and pieces of a costume. This year I came up with the following list of costume ideas. I would recommend any of these if you're looking for a costume.

Ugliest Rock Stars - Courtney Love and Lemmy repeatedly exchange position for ugliest rock star. Honestly, what could be scarier than these two?

Betty Boop - Oh what a babe. I wish children’s TV still had some good old sluttiness left in it.

Madonna or Shirley Temple - two classic women on opposite ends of the spectrum.

The Paper Bag Princess - Cute and easy. Canadian Tire sells super-sized paper bags for gardening which can easily be converted into a princess' gown.

The Mad Hatter - Simply one of the easiest costumes ever; all you need is a big hat and a crazy coat. Not to mention this costume works for men and women.

A Mid Summer Night's Dream - Just imagine the glitter, sheer fabric, and wild makeup you could do for this one!

The Rug Rats - A cute collection of infant paraphernalia will do the trick here.

The Little Rascals - If you've seen the show how could you not recognize Alfalfa anywhere.

The Looney Toons Characters - I grew up on these shows and so did almost everyone. As a costume there are just good fun.

The X-Men - a fun group costume but you would be surprised at how difficult it can be to find spandex in all the colours of the rainbow.

The cast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show - This is a personal favourite of mine but it can be exceptionally difficult to convince a group of 5 men and women to wear corsets and garters in public.

Where to buy an Ensemble

Dressew is a fabric store on Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver that seasonally becomes a one-stop shop for your costume of choice. Dressew is an excellent location for collection of costume accessories or an entire outfit.

If you've got time to plan your outfit Ebay
is so convenient and a source of nearly anything you could need.

Value Village is the perfect last minute stop for costumes. If you are looking for ideas or a ready made outfit the selection is unbeatable. Not to mention very reasonably priced. ;)
